I've been pondering doing this for a while now and finally decided to just do it. As anyone who knows me is aware, I am a huge promoter of alternative medicine and natural health. It's been in my family for generations and has always been a huge passion of mine.
Over the past few years, I've worked and studied in the natural health industry and have learned quite a bit. I now have a solid background knowledge and can talk about many health subjects confidently. I have also had the opportunity to work with some very knowledgeable people who have helped me along my path of study who have taught me a lot of very useful random bits of not-so-common information.
Before I jump into things, I wanted to lay out a few things here and give you an idea of what you might expect out of this blog, and what I expect from you.
From me, you can expect:
1. Trusted information. I generally go with a trust-nothing type of motto, and I check every bit of information I receive. I don't just take something out of a book and say here, do this. I only tell people things that have come from people and/or sources that I absolutely trust to know what they're talking about. When I can, I'll tell you what these sources are.
2. I will provide "scientific" explanations wherever possible. I've found when you tell someone what something actually does in your body, they have a better understanding of how it will work for them.
3. Honesty, always.
4. Sass, and lots of it. You heard me right. I don't have patience for people who give me excuses for not doing something. I have heard a lot of dumb things from people, and I am also just kind of cynical in general. Don't get me wrong, I'm a nice person, but if you are expecting a polite, boring informational blog, you're in the wrong place.
5. I take what I do very seriously and I only tell you to do things for specific reasons. I don't make money writing this, and I don't believe that this industry should be about that. I understand that a lot of health issues are personal or sensitive topics and I will deal with them with discretion.
That being said, I want to clarify the word "excuses" in #4. That solely refers to actual excuses, not real medical reasons for not doing things. Examples of such excuses I don't put up with are:
"I don't like the taste of it."
- This one enrages me. I don't care if you're 5 or 95, it's just not an excuse. I'll say that again for emphasis: NOT AN EXCUSE. Suck it up, princess.
"I don't take [insert form of supplement here...ie: 'liquids' is a common one]."
- Well fine then, take something else that doesn't work nearly as well and see how that goes.
"Those are horsepills."
- I want to stab people that say this to me in the eye. FYI: A lot of such "horsepills" dissolve in water.
"I only want it if I can just take one a day."
"I don't want to take that many."
"I won't remember to take those."
- Well, have fun being [insert vitamin/mineral name here] deficient then, and/or not getting any benefit from taking it whatsoever. Wasting money sure is fun!
See, I told you there would be sass.
This kind of leads into what I expect from you. Starting off: don't give me silly reasons why you don't want to do things. As well, don't give me reasons why you DO other silly things. I will refuse to help you if you say things like:
"Everything is bad for you. You can't avoid it."
- Um, yes, actually you can avoid and prevent almost anything.
As an excuse to [insert bad habit here]: "Whatever, something is going to eventually kill me anyway."
- This is another one of those "not a valid excuse in any way, shape or form" things. And as I just mentioned, nothing has to kill you if you do something about it. Whatever happened to dying of old age? Does this not interest anyone anymore?
"What's losing a few brain cells really going to do?"
"It's not that bad."
"Whatever, it's not going to do anything to me, I'm pretty healthy."
"I [exercise/eat healthy**], so it doesn't matter if I don't [eat healthy**/exercise]. It balances it out!"
- If I really have to hear you say these things, I should question our friendship. If we're not friends, this could be a reason why.
**Just so everyone knows, eating salad at McDonald's or other places like that doesn't count as being healthy. I don't care how many commercials tell you it is.
I also have hundreds of other reasons why eating certain things doesn't count as being healthy either. But that's for another entry.
So I guess the moral of this story is: Be sensible. Don't be ridiculous. If you have questions about something, please, please, PLEASE ask.
I may think of other things to add to this page, so I may update if that is the case. But I think you get the gist. I am pondering making a separate email in order to take questions and comments. I haven't worked that out yet, but I'll let you know if I do.

Well, not really, but I just like saying that.

ReplyDeleteHmm...one part of biology I don't think I know too much about. But I can look into it. What about it specifically? Pneumonia? Something else?
